National Adult Safeguarding Board

The establishment of the National Adult Safeguarding Board (NASB) in 2026 represents a significant development in adult safeguarding in England, providing national leadership, oversight and accountability for safeguarding adults at risk of abuse and neglect. Convened by the Department of Health and Social Care following recommendations from Baroness Casey, the Board brings together senior leaders, people with lived experience and safeguarding experts to strengthen national learning, improve transparency and drive system-wide improvements. Its initial priorities include updating the Care Act statutory guidance on safeguarding, reviewing the legal safeguarding framework, improving responses to issues such as homelessness, substance misuse and transitional safeguarding, and ensuring that lessons from serious safeguarding failures lead to meaningful change across the sector.

BCSSP will publish further guidance once national launch.
