Frequently Asked Questions

FAQs about Training

I've completed safeguarding training with someone else - Does this cover my safeguarding requirements within B&NES?

This all depends on who you did the training with and what it covered.

If you completed the training through another Children’s Safeguarding Partnership or Adult Safeguarding Board then generally yes this is accepted.  However, there is also a requirement to have a good working knowledge of safeguarding information within the area you are working in.

Therefore, although the training completed with another partnership is transferrable, we always advise people to either ensure you spend time educating yourself about B&NES specific policy, protocols, pathways and resources or attend a BCSSP refresher course.

For safeguarding training that was not provided by a Local Authority Safeguarding Partnership or Board to be accepted, it must meet the same training standards (Children's and Adult's) as training offered through the BCSSP (and agreed regionally).

What is the cost of the BCSSP training courses?

The BCSSP provides several learning events which are free to the B&NES workforce, including the Introduction to Child Protection Course and the Level 2 Safeguarding Adults Course.  For sessions which are not fully funded by the safeguarding partnership, a ‘tiered’ approach to course charges has been adopted to ensure equality of access for smaller community-based organisations.

For further details regarding course costs please refer to the charging policy which is also available on course pages on the Learning Zone.

Why am I being charged for training listed as free?

The BCSSP has a number of learning events which are free to the B&NES workforce.   Although these sessions are free to access, there is still a cost to provide them, with this sum being funded by the BCSSP.

When people cancel their place at short notice or do not attend the event, it denies spaces to others wishing to attend and reduces the ability to disseminate key learning. Therefore, in order to encourage attendance, there is a late cancellation/ non-attendance cost within the charging policy.

How do I cancel my place on a training course?

If you wish to cancel a booking over 10 working days prior to the event taking place, this can be done without charge by logging into your account. Locate the booking listed in ‘My Learning’, click on the title, then click the ‘disenrol’ icon featured on the tool bar.

If you wish to cancel within 10 working days of the event, please contact us at Childrensandadultsworkforce_training@bathnes.gov.uk. You will still be charged for the booking as per the charging policy. Alternatively, if another member of your team /organisation is able to attend the booking, this can be transferred to them with no additional charges.

What is the difference between single and multi-agency training?

Single agency training is specific to the work of your organisation. It can be delivered at any level of skill and knowledge, from a basic induction, to a highly specialist course providing specific techniques for practitioners, or a specialist course covering the exact duties of safeguarding leads within your organisation.

Multi-agency training focuses on more generic safeguarding topics that are relevant to all agencies working with children, adults, families and carers, and all multi-agency courses will be attended by and/or delivered by a number of organisations. Multi-agency training will always contain a focus on how organisations work together to keep children and adults safe, how to balance the competing priorities involved and how to overcome the barriers that exist.

Why should I do multi-agency training?

We know there are lots of challenges involved in working together to keep children and adults at risk safe from harm, and these difficulties have sadly been highlighted in numerous reviews.  Continually learning about how and why we need to work together and putting this learning into practice will improve the outcomes for those with whom we work.

Sitting alongside the importance of multi-agency working within safeguarding and the positive impact of this approach, there is also a legal duty on us all to work and train together.

FAQs Learning Zone Site and Account Questions

Where can I find the meeting link to the online training I've booked?

The link to join your online training session will be emailed to you approximately one week in advance of the event, alongside the course materials. [This information will be sent from childrensandadultsworkforce_training@bathnes.gov.uk]

Additionally, the link will be available via your learning zone account appropriately 15 minutes prior to the event. To access the link, log into your account and the upcoming course will be visible on your home page. Once the session has been opened by the session facilitator, the link will be available to use.

How do I access my certificate and course materials?

Training certificates will not be emailed to you but are instead kept on your Learning Zone training account for easy access. These will remain on the system and are available to download and/or print as often as you’d like.

Click on ‘My Records’, then Courses’, then click the badge/rosette icon at the end of the course row to download your certificate.

Why have I not received an email confirmation after booking onto a course?

Firstly, it is important to check that you have booked onto a specific training date, rather than expressing an interest in the topic by generally enrolling onto the course.  If you have chosen a specific date and still not received an email, it may be that your account details are incorrect and typically means the email address you used when you created your account is an old one or has a typo.

Once logged into your account click on the user menu (the 3 horizontal lines at the top left of your home page), click on the pencil icon (My Profile) and then edit your account as required.

Why have I not received a calendar invite for the training I booked on?

Immediately after successfully booking on to a specific training session, you will receive an automatic booking notification email. Attached to this email, there is a calendar invite link: click on the link to add to your calendar.  Should this not work, please manually add the details into your calendar so as to ensure you have the relevant information.

Do I need to create a new account if I change employment?

No. If you create a new account, this will become a duplicate and not only means you will not be able to access previous training records through your new account but may also cause confusion with any existing or new bookings.

If you change roles or organisation, you can edit your own account details by logging in to your account, clicking on the user menu (the 3 horizontal lines at the top left of your home page), clicking on the pencil icon (My Profile) and then editing your account as required.

If you think you have created a duplicate account, don’t worry. Contact us at Learning@BATHNES.GOV.UK and we can merge both accounts and you won’t lose anything.

How can I book other people from my organisation on training on their behalf?

Everybody who attends BCSSP training must have their own account on the Learning Zone.

Training must be booked under the name of the person attending the training as it needs to then appear in their personal training record and the certificate will be generated in their name.
